Tex-Sex and Rock-n-Roll People who didn't know me in high school would be surprised to knowI really like rockabilly. I wanted my friends to come to this show, even if they hated the music, because the stage show kicks. Really, that's not hyperbole. The Dalai Lama feeling up high-school girls, skankcheerleaders, thick-as-steel-plate state trooper sticking a shotgun inmy face, live chainsaw demonstration, topless dancers, and enough goodol' boys you think you walked into an NRA meeting. Don't make the mistake that their stage show is compensating for anything -- they came here to rock, and I didn't see anyone that stood still. "Ah don't think anyone would mind if we went out tonight with a ZZ Top cover?" asks Hollis, and the stage fills with women for his answer. There's also pix here of the DollRods, who opened for White Cowbell on the May 15th show, and Sean Ward, a comic-book artist who dressed up in the audience. |
